The importance of teaching children at an early age to do right and wrong cannot be overstated. Punishment can help them to discern this. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
What sort of punishment should parents and teachers be allowed to use to teach good behaviour to children?
With their impressionable minds, raising children to learn the difference between right and wrong is extremely important. Every situation calls for a unique solution, however, it is important to set boundaries and sometimes use of punishment is warranted. Therefore, I agree that punishments are necessary.
For example, when a child’s behaviour is wrong the first step is to talk to her. However, even after receiving warnings if the child does not obey the adult would have to punish the child. Ways to do this are grounding the child or taking away her favourite toy. Such a punishment conditions the child to realise her mistake and becomes a teachable moment for the other children.
However, I strongly believe that an adult should never physically harm a child. Children mimic what they see and experience. Therefore, any aggressive behaviour would do more harm than good.
In summary, I believe it is mandatory to have punishments to mould a child into a good law-abiding citizen. However, adults need to balance the punishments and not become aggressive by physically harming the child.
